The board of directors and the artistic director of the National Theatre, Yiannis Moschos, asked their coordinating bodies, with whom they had a meeting on Friday (24/2), to stop the occupations that are taking place in its buildings. During the discussion, the management of the theater expressed to the coordinating bodies of the occupations the opinion that the assertion of their demands will now be more effective, with the National Theater and its stages open to the public, its workers and its artistic and educational work .

In the relevant announcement, the Board of Directors of the National Theater and its artistic director stand by the side of the students, inviting them this time to consider other forms of action that will not inhibit the theater’s artistic programming, pledging to contribute programmatically and with all their strength to the further dialogue.

At the same time, they call on the State to intensify the positive initiatives of the last few days at the salary level in order to definitively resolve the critical non-salary issues of professional classification and correspondence and to fully de-escalate the situation.

The Board of Directors and the Artistic Director of the National Theater today took the initiative of meeting with the coordinating bodies of the squatters that are developing in its buildings. During the discussion, the bodies of the National Theater reiterated their positions, as expressed in their announcement of 09.02.2023, and made clear their commitment to the need to find legislative solutions towards the autonomous classification of artistic education as a new, special category (Artistic Education-“KE”) at a level higher than “DE”, with a point amendment of the P.D. 85/2022.

At the same time, prioritizing the unity of the theater community but also fully aware that the National Theater bears a disproportionate burden, they expressed to the coordinating bodies of the occupations the opinion that asserting their demands would now be more effective and mutually beneficial, with the National Theater and the his scenes open to the public, his employees and his artistic and educational work. In this context, the Theater publicly invites them to consider other forms of action that will not inhibit its artistic programming, pledging to contribute programmatically and with all its strength to the further dialogue.

At the same time, the State is called upon to intensify the positive initiatives of the last few days at the salary level in order to finally resolve the critical non-salary issues of professional classification and correspondence and to fully de-escalate the situation».
