The political system over the years has not shown the sensitivity it should on the issue of railways, stressed Mr. Petsas
“As a political system, we all owe an apology to Greek society and to the families of the victims for the chronic pathologies of the Greek railways that led to this tragic accident that has hurt us all,” he said to SKAI and the show “Kalimera” with Giorgos Autias, the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Stelios Petsas.
“In addition to the apology, it is required that the responsibilities for the tragic accident be assigned immediately, fairly and by name, but also to ensure that something like this will never happen again”, added Mr. Petsas.
Also, the deputy interior minister emphasized that “there are more than ten years of delays in this project. Over time, the political system has not shown the sensitivity it should have on the issue of railways”, underlining: “it will never happen again, just this long-suffering contract that has to do with remote control. by September 2023 the remaining 30% will be completed”.
“No automated system is a panacea. The safety rules must govern all of us, we must take them seriously,” said Mr. Petsas.
Referring to SYRIZA’s accusations regarding the relations of the station master with a ND MP, Mr. Petsas said that “micropolitical confrontations with what has happened are causing vomiting in Greek society”, clarifying: “18 positions were advertised through mobility and interest was expressed from two faces”.
