A photo circulating on social media from Oropos, which shows a woman lying on a blanket without her clothes on, being hosed down by an ambulance crew in a block of flats, has caused outrage and disgust.

The image is difficult for the human mind to grasp, as it looks like torture, however the mayor of the area, who was informed of the incident, emphasizes that it is completely true.

“I know the incident and unfortunately it is true. It came to my attention two hours ago and I really have no words to express myself. Its a shame. It’s an unprecedented extravagance that goes back centuries,” the mayor of Oropou, Giorgos Giasimakis, said angrily to GRTimes.

The latter even added that although it is Sunday, “procedures have already been initiated in order to start an investigation into the incident. The ambulance does not belong to EKAV, it is municipal but managed by a private company. I contacted the owner and asked him not to stop the operation of the ambulance, however I demanded that this particular crew be removed today. We went to the office in the evening, prepared the documents, and tomorrow a protocol will be entered and the process will begin,” added the mayor.

It should be noted that in his post on Facebook, Mr. Giasimakis underlines that “as a human being, I unequivocally condemn the unacceptable incident and feel disgusted and ashamed. As mayor I have already given an order for an urgent EDE that will investigate and assign responsibilities where they exist. I want to assure my fellow citizens that such inhumane behaviors, wherever they come from, will go unpunished.”

The photo has caused an uproar on social media profiles, with many comments referring to the inhumanity of the act with practices reminiscent of “Auschwitz” and the torture suffered by its inmates.

Regarding the woman, the latest information indicates that she is being treated in a hospital and that she is in good health.
