Getting to know Patagonia is the dream of many, and it may become the desire of even more people after the documentary series carried out by Clan.destino, by friends and travelers Maurício Guartelá, Marcos DeLacumbre and Gui Hoefelmann.
Launched in December, “Patagonia” brings together beautiful landscapes and testimonies from various residents of the region, divided between Argentina and Chile. And all permeated by a very acidic text, with several word games.
The series addresses thorny themes, such as the Falklands War (1982) and its consequences to this day, and also the historical dispute between Argentina and Chile and some legacies of Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship (1973-1990).
A strong point of “Patagonia” is the amount of testimonies from residents of the Tierra del Fuego region. Often, the traveler is unable to engage in a conversation with an inhabitant, due to a lack of will (both for one and the other) or because of the language. With the video, it is possible to learn more about the local culture.
With the hermit Don Ramón, for example, it makes you want to sit down, with the mate at your side, and listen for hours to his stories and know what it is like to live isolated in the middle of nowhere, amidst the Patagonian aridity and the cougars, a typical predator in the region. and hunter of guanacos (close cousins of llamas).
The video is not recommended for children under 16 years old, due to the large amount of profanity. But I suggest that young adults watch the series, both to be motivated to get to know the region and to hear some criticisms of social media.
Even with reservations about the culture of beautiful images and traveling clichés, the three friends know the value of Instagram, since it was through it that they discovered an ice cave – and where they advertise “Patagonia”.
To see the series, it is necessary to contact the team through the profile @sigaclandestino. After paying R$30, access is free for a week to see “Patagonia”.
The three episodes add up to two hours and, as the producers recommend, it’s best to watch it on TV in color mode for cinema. On a big screen or by mobile, what will emerge are breathtaking scenery and a mad desire to hit the road.
