He passed away at the age of 80 the veteran journalist Andreas Zebilason Thursday, March 2.

Andreas Zebilas was born in Athens in 1943.

He was a graduate of the General High School and knew English, French and Spanish.

He took his first professional steps from 1960 to 1964, in his father’s engraving workshop.

The period of the dictatorship that followed marked his course. Throughout the seven years he actively participated in the resistance against the Junta, as a member of the “People’s Revolutionary Resistance” Organization.

But even after the transition, Andreas Zebilas did not stop fighting for democracy and social justice in the new conditions.

From 1975 to 1980 he was in charge of international news at the weekly newspaper “Socialist March”.

At the same time, he also worked as a translator and editor for the publications “Papazisi” and “Idodomi”.

From 1981 to 1985 he participated in the editorial team of the magazine “Antithesis”.

At the same time, from 1981 to 1988, he worked on the ERT1 TV show “Greece is not only Athens” and on state radio broadcasts aimed at farmers and, from 1988 to 1990, as an international news editor at the private radio station ” TOP FM” by D.O.L..

In 1991 he started working at the TV station “MEGA”, where he remained for many years, in the International News department.

He was always exemplary in his work, with immense respect for the viewer and the news. He was a connoisseur and scholar of his subject, consistent and interested in giving something extra to the big events in the narrow and oppressive television time.

He continued until the end of his life to be a fighter and independent, participating in social struggles and always defending his ideals. By his example he inspired his colleagues, to whom he will remain unforgettable.
