The General Confederation of Greek Workers calls for the causes of the accident in Tempi to be shed light on and responsibility to be assigned. The GSEE points out that in the proceedings of its 38th conference, the central issue will be the elaboration of a framework of positions for the investigation and assignment of responsibilities and measures, “so that we do not mourn lives again” noting that “this framework will also be supported by a decision on strikes and other mobilizations ».

Specifically, the GSEE states in its announcement the following:

“Tomorrow, March 8, a series of Labor Centers and Unions have declared strike mobilizations.

The day after tomorrow, March 9, the 38th Congress of the GSEE is scheduled, a fact which, on the one hand, does not help its active involvement, on the other hand, the “well-wishers” would blame every decision on electoral expediency or trade union hypocrisy.

We are on the side of all those who are fighting, so that ample light can be shed on the causes of the accident and that all those – no matter how high they are – involved are held accountable.

In the work of the conference, the central theme will be the elaboration of a framework of positions for the investigation and assignment of responsibilities and measures, so that we do not mourn lives again. This framework will also be supported by a decision on strikes and other mobilizations.

It is unthinkable to present repetitions of past phenomena, i.e. opacity, cover-ups, shifts of responsibility, delays, which lead to oblivion and for society to have the bitter taste of the impunity of the powerful.

Unions are and will be here and all their forces should serve their own autonomous strategy, far from being subsumed in party expediencies and confrontations.

We want answers to why.

We want answers to how the country will not experience such tragedies again.”
