The Appeals Council unanimously decided to acquit the lawyer, former legal advisor of LAGIE, Giorgos Antonopoulos of all charges in the case of the complaints of businessman, executive of ENERGA, Aristidis Floros for attempted extortion.

The case, for which Mr. Antonopoulos remained in temporary custody for six months, concerns the so-called “prison mafia” that came to light after the cold-blooded murder of Mr. Floros’ lawyer Michalis Zafeiropoulos.

The complaints of Mr. Aristidis Floros concerned the action of a ring of lawyers and prisoners who blackmailed him, while he was in prison for the case of the electricity providers Energa Hellas Power, in order to pay 5 million euros, so that the prisoners accused of the attempt to burden of LAGIE’s lawyer to withdraw their complaint that they attempted to kill Mr. Antonopoulos on the orders of Floros.

It should be noted that Mr. Floros has been sentenced in the first instance for the case of the attempted homicide against Mr. Antonopoulos to 13 years in prison as a moral perpetrator, while for the case of the two service providers he was sentenced in the second instance to 5 years in prison with suspension.

In a press release issued by the lawyer of Mr. Antonopoulos, Alexis Kougias, on the occasion of the discharge of his principal, it is stated, among other things:

“Mr. George Antonopoulos was accused only by a comical lawsuit by Aristides Floros and by the witness statements of his lawyers. Mr. George Antonopoulos was arrested with the arrest warrant of the Special Appellate Investigator Mr. Eutychios Nikopoulos, humiliated in the courtrooms and destroyed professionally and socially, being sent to the prisons of Corinth as the most dangerous criminal, while his co-accused the well-known lawyers Al. Lykourezos and Th. Panagopoulos were arrested with humiliating arrest warrants in Athens and Ioannina respectively and were released, after being humiliated with derogatory restrictive conditions, without even a single institutional body reacting in the eyes of the world.”
