The General Secretariat of Anti-Criminal Policy of the Ministry of Citizen Protection sent all necessary documents at Turkish authorities for the transfer of a prisoner from Turkey to Greece, specifically the father of the train driver who lost his life in the fatal train accident accident at Tempe.

Earlier, the Minister of Protection Takis Theodorikakos in a new communication with the Turkish Minister of the Interior, Mr. Süleyman Soylu, was informed about the positive response of the Turkish authorities to the Greek extradition request. For his part, the Greek Minister expressed his satisfaction with the outcome of the case and the immediate response of the Turkish authorities to this humanitarian request.

The father of the deceased driver was serving a sentence in a Turkish prison.

According to information, this was also the topic that was discussed during yesterday’s telephone conversation between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Mevlüt ÇavuÅŸoÄŸlu, with the request that it not be shared before it is announced by the Turkish Authorities.

Mr. Dendias then spoke to the driver’s family in order to inform them, according to the same information.

The prisoner had submitted a request to the penitentiary last week for permission to attend his son’s funeral, diplomatic sources said.

Finally, the Turkish authorities decided to extradite him to Greece.
