The commander of the 5th Ministry of Health of Thessaly – Central Greece, Fotis Seretis, came to the Larissa Courthouse today, in order to submit to the investigator the conclusion of the EDE for the two doctors of the General Hospital of Volos regarding the granting of sick leave to the inspector – head of the OSE.

After his testimony to the investigator and regarding the granting of sick leave to the inspector, the head of the OSE stated: “We suspended the two doctors and at the same time the disciplinary process of referring them to the disciplinary board of the 5th Ministry of Health began.”

Among other things, Mr. Seretis referred to the wounded who are being treated in hospitals, pointing out that seven people are in ICUs, two of them in Thessaloniki, four in PGN and finally one in GNL.

Also, in his statements, Mr. Seretis underlined how “sick leave was granted in violation of all protocols,” while the two doctors were already suspended. The next stage includes the judicial investigation, in order to examine any criminal responsibilities, as well as the official investigation by the Disciplinary Council of the 5th Ministry of Health.

The inspector’s sick report

From the EDE that the inspector received sick leave while he did not undergo any diagnostic tests, he did not go to the TEPs but sought the director of the clinic who only made an opinion based on the clinical picture and without any other examination and then the inspector, by order of the director, gave 30 days sick leave. The study of issuing such an opinion outside of the usual procedure that requires a visit to a medical center or a regular appointment and diagnostic check-up and in the time that it takes place, i.e. one 24 hours after the fatal accident, absolutely justifies the disciplinary control and the criminal evaluation of the behaviors.

According to information, the director of the neurosurgery clinic of the Volos hospital allegedly cited inability to prescribe and for this reason asked the curator of the clinic to prescribe the sick leave “due to inability to walk”, while as the reason for granting the sick leave he stated in his note to the curator that “Lumbar stenosis and severe lesions of conservative treatment after surgery are found”.
