The entire country is on “strike line” tomorrow with demonstrations and work stoppages scheduled to take place in the wake of the Tempe train crash tragedy that left 57 people dead.

In Ioannina, trade unions, unions and public and private sector bodies have announced a 24-hour strike.

A gathering has been planned by the Labor Center and the Prefectural Department of ADEDY in the central square of the city, at 11 in the morning.

“The 57 dead in the train accident in Tempe, the majority of them young men and women, are victims of a criminal policy.

A policy that deforested and ultimately destroyed Public Railway transport for the benefit of private interests. Who did not care about security systems and regulations, devaluing in practice even human life, in order to preserve the profits of private individuals and also to allocate public revenues to the “direct assignments of the mothers”, the Prefectural Department of ADEDY states in its announcement.

“The anger of all of us for the crime of the state, its governments and the Hellenic train, must now become a raging river of struggle that will drown the policies that consider our lives a cost.

We call on the unions, all workers, the youth, and the people of our city to reach the strike call in every industry and workplace. We take matters into our own hands. Enough of the mockery, take safety and health measures for all workers. No trust in governments and employers who, on the altar of profitability, count for nothing” says the Labor Center of Ioannina, which has declared a pan-Ioannina strike.

The participation of students and student associations of the University of Ioannina is again expected to be massive.

“Students demand that the prescribed crime in Tempe not be covered up, they demand public safe transport that is cheap for the people so that we don’t mourn other victims” is emphasized in a related announcement.
