The man who he was arrested at noon on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, in the area of ​​the Municipality of Chania, by police officers of the Security Sub-Directorate of Chania and the Department of Police Operations of Mylopotamos for fraud, violation of the legislation on weapons, as well as violation of the legislation on the protection of antiquities.

According to an announcement by the General Police Directorate of Crete, a man was arrested in the context of a police operation, who had for a fee display cases containing – according to him –bone fragments attributed to Orthodox Saints and Roman Catholic Church, icons and priestly objects”.

As the police announcement states, “to end his action, a covert police operation was organized in which the above was arrested when he delivered to a prospective buyer 7 cases and cases that contained a total of 17 boneswhich according to his claims were relics of Saints of the Roman Catholic Church, after he had previously received the pre-marked amount of 3,000 euros”.

In a subsequent search of his house, 19 display cases containing relics, bones, parts of bones, a pistol, two magazines and 207 cartridges, icons of Saints, priestly jewelry and a cross were found and confiscated.

The arrested person, with the case file filed against him, is taken to the competent prosecuting authority.
