The first tourists arrived at Rhodes airport – Warm welcome with gifts and Greek flags

The first charter flight arrived today at the “Diagoras” airport of Rhodes, bringing the first tourists of the season to the island. In particular, shortly before 12 noon, the first international flight from London landed at the “Diagoras” airport of Rhodes, setting off for the 2023 season.

On the “track” of the airport when the plane landed, the regional governor of South Aegean was present George Hatzimarkoswhile a Fire Service vehicle formed an arch to welcome them.

Afterwards, the tourists were welcomed by the members of the tourism department of the Municipality of Rhodes as well as the deputy mayor of tourism, Mr. Thanasis Vyrinis, handing out Greek flags as well as traditional products such as melekounia, honey and others, while at the exit of the airport there was also the band of the philharmonic of the Municipality of Rhodes.

Speaking to “Rodiaki”, the Deputy Mayor of Tourism, Mr. Thanasis Byrinis, said: “This year’s tourist season in Rhodes started earlier than any other year. Today we welcome the first 350 visitors who arrive on three charter flights from England and by all indications we are expected to have a successful season this year just like last year.”

Mr. Hatzimarkos even recorded the arrival of the charter with his mobile phone, while in his written statement through his personal social media account he states:

“Good season. The first international flight for ’23 has just landed at the “Diagoras” Airport of Rhodes. It is Easy Jet flight U28799 from London. With the most responsible and warm smile, the islanders who “invented” hospitality today welcome the tourist year 2023.
Tourism in the South Aegean did not happen, it was planned. A commitment was made to cooperation, a social alliance, a big fist, a cohesive group with all social partners, and it succeeded. So have a good season, let’s go again”

In a statement, the mayor of Rhodes Antonis Kambourakis he emphasized: “Our Rhodes is once again at the top, first and best. Today, for the first time so early, the tourist season opens in Rhodes with charter flights from Great Britain. Rhodes starts the summer for all of Greece.

We welcome with warmth and a smile the friendly visitors who honor us with their choice, laying the foundations for new records for our tourism, an activity that in one way or another provides daily bread to the vast majority of the Rhodian people.

At the same time, Rhodes is doing its patriotic duty. In a difficult moment, it strengthens the image of Greece in the eyes of the whole world and contributes to another year of success for Greek tourism, which our country absolutely needs.

It is noted that two more charter flights from the United Kingdom, specifically from Luton and Manchester, are expected to arrive on the island during the day.

Also, another international flight on “Diagoras” from Bristol is expected tomorrow Sunday, on Tuesday March 14 another aircraft is expected from the British capital, on 3/16 two flights from Luton and London, and on 3/18 three charters from London , Luton and Manchester.

All international flights to Rhodes at the beginning of the tourist season are with the same carrier.
