The Panhellenic Federation of Employees in Public Hospitals (POEDIN) announces a general strike from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., on Wednesday, March 15, to “prevent”, as it says, “the privatization” of the Children’s Oncology Unit of the “Agia Sophia” Hospital.

As part of the work stoppage, a gathering will be held at 11.30 at the “Agia Sophia” Children’s Hospital, followed by a march to the Parliament.

“The Bill was introduced in the Parliament with which, for the first time since the establishment of the National Health Service, standard services are detached from a Hospital, autonomous and privatized”, reports POEDIN. He adds that the Children’s Oncology Unit, which provides an integrated network of services, the only one in our country, a model throughout Europe, is detached and transformed into a Legal Entity of Private Law.

“Working relationships are becoming more flexible. The operation of the Unit is at risk as employees may request to leave the Unit and work in the services of the Children’s Hospital “Agia Sophia”. There is a risk that families will be burdened for the provision of services”, says the Federation. He concludes that “essentially, with this incomprehensible decision, the treatment of childhood cancer in our country is privatized. It opens a back door to privatization and other corresponding specialized Hospital services”.
