The announcement of the Ministry of the Interior
Illegal was decided by the Single-member Court of First Instance of Athens, following a lawsuit filed by the Minister of the Interior Makis Voridis and the Minister of Finance Christos Staikouras on behalf of the Greek State, the strike – public servants abstaining from their duties announced for Thursday, March 16 by Supreme Administration of Unions of Public Employees (ADEDY) with a request not to apply the evaluation and target setting process in the State.
The Minister of the Interior, Makis Voridis, commenting on the court’s decision, said: “I was surprised by the decision of ADEDY to declare a strike from the evaluation and targeting process. Such a decision always causes astonishment, but especially at the present moment, when the inaccuracies of an entire operating system and its tragic consequences are highlighted in the most dramatic way, it really makes the most painful impression. Our Government has legislated and has been implementing since the beginning of the year the new evaluation and targeting system in the Public, in order to correct the bad texts and overcome decades of pathologies, trying to leave behind us an evaluation system where everyone was excellent and there was no process evaluation of the skills and improvement processes of the State. We passed the law, alone of course, without the support of the left opposition. We quickly passed the secondary legislation and according to our timetable from 1/1/23 we have started to implement the new rating system. At this juncture, ADEDY considered it appropriate to declare a strike from the evaluation process. This decision is truly infuriating. For this reason we appealed to the courts which declared the strike illegal and therefore the process will continue as normal. We will continue to fight, in order to form conditions for the effective operation of the Public Administration and we believe that, in our effort, we have the overwhelming majority of public employees as supporters”.
