Gangaccused of blowing up bank ATMs to break into them and stealing cars in Attica, was busted by the Property Crimes Department of the Attica Security Directorate.

According to ELAS, two men were arrested during an organized operation, carried out in areas of Attica, as members of the criminal organization.

A case was filed against them for criminal organization, distinguished thefts by complicity and by continuation, explosions by complicity and other offenses related to explosives, forgeries as well as damage to foreign property.

As emerged from the police investigation, the two arrestedsince May 2022, had formed a gang, with the purpose of committing bank ATM burglaries with explosives and car thefts, in order to use them for their criminal activity.

The two defendants, according to THE GREEK POLICE, they had special know-how in the use of solid explosives, which they adapted to improvised metal constructions so that they could be introduced inside the ATMs, through the money extraction slot. They would then detonate the device and remove the cash boxes.

For their escape and in order to make it difficult for the prosecuting authorities to locate them, they used stolen vehicles.

Among other things, 30 hunting cartridges, 9 mobile phones and SIM cards, burglary tools, documents from stolen vehicles and handwritten notes were found and confiscated in the possession of the defendants, as well as from the searches carried out in houses and various places.

From the police investigation so far, the participation of the organization’s members in at least one ATM burglary in Attica, as well as in the theft of 8 vehicles, 7 of which were found and returned to their owners, has been established.

According to the estimate of ELAS, the financial benefit obtained by the gang exceeds the monetary amount of 180,000 euros.

It is noted that the two men have been accused in the past of a number of crimes, such as robberies, thefts, violations of weapons and drug laws.

The arrested were taken to the Athens District Attorney, while the police investigation continues.
