The police authorities are on alert in the settlement of Droseros, in the city of Xanthi, in the face of the fear of a vendetta breaking out after the cold-blooded and contact killing of a 45-year-old man in front of his wife and then the burning of the houses of the 37-year-old perpetrator and of his brother, probably by relatives of the victim.

In fact, according to xanthinea.gr, incidents of small or large extent are recorded almost continuously in the settlement with stone throwing while shots were also heard.

The perpetrator after his act handed himself over to the Police after first uploading a video on Tik-tok where he explained the reasons for his act while issuing threats against those who hurt his family. The police arrested a little later the two sons (18 and 17 years old) and his son-in-law (17 years old) who had accompanied the 37-year-old to the victim’s house.

The 37-year-old perpetrator and three others arrested (all minors) are being held at the Xanthi Police Department until their statement next Thursday.

Cauldron that boils Cool

A few hours after the arrests, the situation in the settlement took on alarming proportions on Monday night when unknown assailants, possibly out of revenge, set fire to the home of the confessed perpetrator after first emptying it of all its furniture.

Afterwards, they also set fire to the house next door owned by the brother of the perpetrator, luckily there were no victims as there were no family members in the two houses at the time.

A police force arrived and remains in the settlement.

At the same time, residents of Droseros and relatives of the victim, with their posts on social media, show the fire that burned the two houses, expressing at the same time their indignation at the act of the perpetrator, pointing out the fact that the 37-year-old had been released, with the concurrence of the investigator and the prosecutor, when he was arrested in January 2023 in a large ELAS operation and then weapons, drugs and sums of money were found in his possession.

According to information gathered by the Police, the perpetrator and the victim had been in a heated dispute recently over personal differences related to the break-up of the engagement of the victim’s 15-year-old granddaughter and the perpetrator’s 17-year-old son and over an amount of money that had been paid by the victim’s family 37-year-old to that of the 45-year-old victim.

The perpetrator had allegedly made an “agreement” and had paid 6000 euros for the victim’s minor granddaughter as a bride to his minor son and even after a relevant “bargain” for the price. However, a few weeks later the engagement broke off and the 15-year-old returned home.
