Yesterday, the police officers of the Extortion Prosecution Department of the Thessaloniki Security Directorate proceeded to the arrest of two men aged 56 and 63 respectively.

A case file was filed against them for the offenses of “Manufacturing and possession of explosive and incendiary materials”, violation of Legislation regarding “Regulation of matters concerning weapons, ammunition, explosives, explosive mechanisms and other provisions” and violation of Legislation regarding “Digital Governance – Electronic Communications and other provisions’.

After a planned operation by the police officers of the above service, the 56-year-old was located in Edessa and after an investigation carried out in two 2 I.X.E. cars owned by him, as well as from three 3 houses he uses, were found and confiscated:

  • 1 stun gun with cartridge in chamber
  • 1 folding knife
  • 1 pair of chain-linked bats (nunchacks)
  • 1 fixed functional analog radio frequency transceiver with micro speaker (press)
  • 1 shotgun with 2 hunting cartridges inside the chamber, for which he holds a relevant permit, however violating the conditions of safe storage and transport within a residential area
  • 1 shotgun, which will be sent for further laboratory examination, as the listed indications of its manufacturing factory do not correspond to the details of the relevant license
  • 1 battle rifle and 1 scope rifle
  • 1 gas gun
  • 1 sword
  • 5 magazines of various types
  • 113 cartridges (of various calibres, types and manufacturers hunting as well as non-bullet)
  • 3 ampoules of carbon dioxide gas
  • 14 firecrackers (fired with blaster gun)
  • 4 flares (fired by blaster gun)
  • 2 portable transceivers
  • 5 common detonators

Then on the same day, they also located the 63-year-old in Edessa, from whose possession, as well as from his house and its storage areas, they found and confiscated:

  • 12 common detonators, of which 10 oxidized
  • 1 plastic vial containing a shotgun cartridge with detonator and gunpowder
  • 11 knives of which 1 folding
  • 3 cylindrical vials, containing 9 common detonators,
  • 1 slow-burning incendiary rope
  • Number of containers, vials, micropackages containing quantities of unknown mixtures, to be sent for further examination
  • 7 long gun barrels, of which five (5) with the bolt
  • 4 long gun stocks
  • 1 long gun bolt mechanism
  • 2 long-barreled rifle scopes, of which (1) is of the “RED DOT” type
  • 1 gun barrel
  • 1 cannabis belt, which carried 31 rounds of military rifle ammunition, of unknown caliber
  • 701 Ammunition (Shotgun, Shotgun, Shotgun, Bulletproof, Snapshot)
  • 323 shotgun shells
  • 1 shotgun, owned by another person
  • 1 rotary grinder
  • 30 magazines
  • 1 stun gun, with a magazine that contained one (1) round
  • 1 pistol, which contained ten (10) rounds of ammunition and was found carefully hidden inside the refrigerator freezer
  • 1 improvised, modified firearm, with pistol grip, trigger and long barrel, chambered with 1 round
  • 3 bayonets
  • 2 oxidized grenades
  • 2 oxidized mortar rounds

The seized explosives-detonators etc. were handed over to police officers of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Department of the Sub-Directorate of the Special Police Forces of Northern Greece and their samples will be sent for laboratory examination to the competent Department of the Criminal Investigation Department.

One of the above vehicles, which had traces of falsification of the chassis number, seized firearms, a stun gun, essential parts of weapons and ammunition (cartridges) will be sent for laboratory examination to the competent Department of the Sub-Directorate of Criminal Investigations of Northern Greece.

The seized war-military material (oxidized mortar shells and oxidized grenades) was handed over to a competent workshop of the Land Mine Clearance Battalion.

Those arrested with the case filed against them will be taken to the District Attorney of Edessa.
