On an Easy Jet flight from Belfast, which landed today at approximately 11:30, at Ioannis Kapodistrias airport in Corfuthe tourist season started on the island.

From 3pm until the evening nine more flights are expected from Great Britain, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Spain and Belgium.

Tourists on the first flight from Belfast were given a festive welcome by tourism operators and the municipality with local treats and the presence of a philharmonic.

Until April 1, 60 flights from European airports are expected to land in Corfu.

Vassilis Kaloudis, vice-president of the General Hellenic Tourism Federation, emphasized to APE-MPE that the season is starting dynamically with an upward trend. In fact, he expressed the optimism that “the increase, compared to last year, can reach 10% and surpass the arrivals of 2019”.

However, Mr. Kaloudis pointed out that a disadvantage for the tourism of Corfu and the local economy, “is the lack of the Russian market, which was of high value, even in the low periods, due to religious tourism”.
