The water heater recycling program of the Ministry of Environment and Energy with new, modern technology, solar water heaters is in the implementation phase.
This is the program “Recycle – Change Water Heaters”, which will start with approximately 120,000 domestic consumers.

Subsidies for the replacement of energy-intensive electric water heaters will be scalable according to income and social criteria and will reach up to 60%.

The platform for the start of submitting applications from interested parties is expected to open in the next few days and by the end of the week.

Beneficiaries

Potential beneficiaries of the Program are domestic consumers who have installed an electric water heater in their home (and not in a business premises), which they wish to replace.

Applications are submitted by individual Natural Persons who were born before January 1, 2006 and reside permanently in Greece.

It is not possible to submit more than one application for the same residence, from different natural persons.

In the case of families/households with a primary and a secondary residence, it is possible to submit applications for both residences (Primary and Secondary), as long as the applications are submitted by different Natural Persons (Obligor and Spouse/SPO) of the same household, as long as the other conditions of this section.

Type and amount of aid

Each funding request concerns the subsidy of the purchase cost of one (1) new Solar Water Heater at a rate ranging from 50% to 60% and up to a maximum allowable grant amount, which depends on the capacity of the Hot Water Tank (Boiler) of the specific Solar Water Heater , as well as the income category of the beneficiary (see table below).
