The plan of autonomous driving and the cooperation with the Local Government for the handling of the cases of the citizens in the field of Transport, occupied the meeting that had the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Mr. Michalis Papadopoulos, with the Mayor of Trikala Mr. Papastergiou.
During the tour that Mr. Papadopoulos is carrying out in Thessaly, he referred to the need to continue the pioneering pilot program with the driverless bus in the city of Trikala, which was launched during his previous term as Deputy Minister of Transport in 2014, making Trikala the first city in the world to use a bus of this technology, in real traffic conditions.
Mr. Papadopoulos assured Mr. Papastergiou that the Ministry of Transport will re-support the development of new autonomous driving programs in Trikala and if the technical safety conditions are met, the possibility of carrying out a transport project will be examined, in cooperation with the Urban KTE area.
Mr. Papadopoulos also informed Mr. Papastergiou about the possibility of participation of Regional officials in the training seminars for examiners for the implementation of the law “Driving Safely”, as well as for the progress in the digitization of the procedures for the diplomas and the licenses. processed in cooperation with the Regions.
The Deputy Minister of Transport and the Mayor of Trikala, together with the MP of Trikala Mrs. Katerina Papakosta, the Regional Governor of Thessaly Mr. Costas Agorastos, the Deputy Regional Governor Mr. Christos Michalakis and the President of the Urban KTEL, Dimitris Ioannou which transports visitors from Trikala to the theme park “Mill of the Elves”.
The use of electric buses is part of the actions of sustainable urban mobility and is combined with thematic units of the park that highlight the usefulness and benefits of renewable energy sources for the environment.
