The journalist, jurist and writer Xenophon Mavraganis died at the age of 83. The Union of Editors of Macedonia-Thrace, of which he was an active member until today, bids him farewell with deep sadness while mwith a new announcement, he will inform about where and when his civil funeral will take place.

Xenophon Mavraganis was born in Plomari Lesvos in 1940 and studied at the Law School of Thessaloniki. He was registered as a member of ESIEM-TH in February 1971 and left a strong mark on the newer path of the Union, both from his position as a legal advisor, which he maintained for many years, and with his participation in ESIEM-TH bodies, in which boasted his accumulated knowledge, his equanimity and his prestige. Until today, he was an active member of the Ethics and Statutory Audit Council in the 2nd degree. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Educational Foundation of ESIEM-TH.

He worked as a journalist in the newspapers Makedonia and Thessaloniki and connected his first steps in reporting with the murder of Grigoris Lambrakis, which he was an eyewitness to. He also worked for the newspapers To Vima, Akropolis, Apogeumatini, Avgi, Kathimerini (Northern Greece edition).

He was the director of Radio of Northern Greece at ERT in 1989-1990. Until 2011, he wrote the column “Heretics” initially in Embros and then in Nea tis Lesvos.

Since 2011, he has been intensively involved in literature, publishing numerous prose books (novels and short stories). He was a member of the Society of Writers of Thessaloniki. His last published short story is included in the volume PRESS_22, Short stories about the Asia Minor Disaster and Journalism, published by the Educational Foundation of ESIEM-TH. The Foundation honored him in 2017 with the Markides Pouliou Award for his work in literature and his connection to the journalistic management of testimony and research.

The Union of Editors of Macedonia-Thrace expresses its condolences to the family of Xenophon Mavraganis and mentions in a statement that both the Management and the employees of ESIEM-TH feel that they have lost one of their own.

With a new announcement ESIEM-Th will inform colleagues about where and when the political funeral of Xenophon Mavragani will take place.
