The fans were going to the men’s volleyball Cup final but there was a ban on the movement of fans
ELAS stopped 200 people who tried to travel to Kalamata to watch the men’s volleyball Cup final, despite the relative ban on the movement of fans that has been issued.
In particular, ELAS states in its announcement:
“Regarding a publication that is reproduced on the internet and refers to a ban on the movement of fans, the Hellenic Police Headquarters clarifies the following:
Today, Saturday, April 1, 2023, and while the relevant decision has been issued to prohibit the movement of organized fans by the Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports, a group of approximately 200 people in vehicles and vans headed en masse to Kalamata where the volleyball cup final is scheduled to be held.
The individuals, as soon as they became aware of the police presence at the Arfaron Tollway and shortly before the check was carried out, threw 89 flares on the highway slope – firecrackers, a torch, 3 improvised flare guns (pen type), 3.6 grams of raw cannabis, 0.4 grams of cocaine and 1 tablet xanax.
It is reminded that fans who have invitations and are accredited can normally go to watch the final of the volleyball cup.
