London Thanasis Gavos

Thomas Cassman, who last August shot and killed nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Corbel in her home in Liverpool, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 42 years by the Manchester Court of First Instance.

The 34-year-old attacker, a well-known drug dealer in Liverpool’s underworld, was hunting another drug dealer, Joseph Nye, on the night of August 22, with the intention of killing him.

During the chase, Nee saw the front door of the Korbel family’s home open and ran inside.

Casman fired indiscriminately through the doorway. It injured little Olivia’s mother Cheryl Korbel and killed the nine-year-old, who had just come downstairs from her room hearing the commotion.

The case had shocked Britain and at the same time is considered a landmark because of the decision of people who knew the perpetrator to name him, breaking the silence that prevails in the circles of outlaws in the city.

In addition to Olivia’s murder, Kasman was also convicted of injuring her mother, as well as the attempted murder of Nee.

The sentence was handed down Monday afternoon, a few days after Kasman was convicted by a jury following 19 days of witness testimony.
