What about lamb prices?
Them strong reactions of butchers has caused the inclusion of lambs in the Easter basketwhich premiered yesterday, Wednesday, April 5.
“We are damaged. We froze with what we heard, as the Minister of Development had assured that he would not put the lamb and the goat in the Basket” characteristically said the president of Larissa Butchers, Mr. Evangelos Rizos.
“And last year lamb in supermarkets was 10-11 euros. They just filled the basket this year. To me the word basket means supermarket advertising. Unintentionally or intentionally, the minister is sending people to the big markets. This for us means less traffic, a blow to the meat market, and a blow to the primary sector in general. Quality and price do not go hand in hand,” he adds.
Mr. Rizos responded negatively to the possibility of taking measures against the inclusion of amnoerifia in the Easter Basket list, stressing that: “Last year, before the prices even came out, we managed in Larissa to restrain up to 13 euros per lamb. We sold from 12-13 euros. This year we will reduce our profits and – despite the energy and consumables we have increased – we will keep the prices as low as we can”.
