Significant success in the effort to ensure and safeguard public health and combat unfair competition was achieved by employees of the General Directorate S.D.O.E., in the framework of the inspections of the Working Group, which was set up by decision No. 63/91067/28.03.2023 of the Minister of Rural Development & Food (Ministry of Agriculture and Food), with the aim of preventing “Hellenization” of imported lambs and eggsduring his period Easter.

Following checks carried out by a team of the General Directorate S.D.O.E. in trucks on the country’s road network, yesterday 6/4/2023, a truck was detected with a load of 302,400 eggs, which were to be made available for consumption in the Greek market, ahead of Easter, however the vast majority of them did not carry the necessary markings . Following direct coordination achieved through the above-mentioned Working Group of the HYPAAT, the co-competent Services (Directorate of Veterinary Public Health of the HYPAAT, S.D.O.E., EL. AS.) the cargo was seized by the Veterinary Service of the Prefecture of Viotia and subsequently, the cargo was transferred to a guarded area, in order to carry out further control and investigation of the traceability of the cargo that was incompletely marked, by the competent Services of the Ministry of Rural Development & Food.

The committed amount of eggs originated in Bulgaria and their channeling to the Greek market would take place in businesses in Glyfada-Attica, Kos and Rethymno.

The S.D.O.E. continues unabated the battle against violations of marketing and trafficking rules, is in constant cooperation with every competent Agency, Working Groups and other prosecuting authorities to reduce the risk posed by illegally trafficked products to public health and the effective protection of consumers .
