All information about conduct of promotions and graduation exams at General high school and high schools includes a circular issued today by the Ministry of Education.

  • GYMNASTICS

The course end date for the High schools defined h Tuesday, May 30, 2023a date on which no teaching takes place and the Teachers’ Association decides on the classification of the course.

The written promotional and graduation exams in the courses of Group A are held in an examination period that lasts from June 1 to 15.

The program of the promotional and graduation exams of the courses is defined by the Teachers’ Association and announced by the Director of the High School to the students, at least three (3) days before the end of the courses. As above, an examination program is also defined for the qualifying examinations of privately taught and conscript students.

According to article 12 of the said p.d., as applicable:

.a) The student is deemed worthy of promotion or dismissal, aa) when he has an annual performance grade of at least ten (10) in each course or ab) when he has an overall average of at least thirteen (13) annual performance grades.

b) If the above conditions for promotion or dismissal are not met, the student is referred in the first ten days of September, before the start of the lessons of the following school year, i.e. in the second examination period, to a repeat examination in the subjects in which his annual performance grade is less than ten (10), as long as the number of these courses does not exceed four (4). If the above conditions for promotion or dismissal are not met and the student has an annual performance grade of less than ten (10) in more than four (4) courses, then he is not considered worthy of promotion or dismissal, he is not referred to a repeat examination and repeats the class.[…] d) Even if, after the repeat exams, a student of the 1st and 2nd grades is not considered worthy of promotion or a student of the 3rd grade is not deemed worthy of dismissal, according to paragraph a of par. 4, he repeats the grade.”

Also, in accordance with article 14 of the above p.d., as applicable: “[…] 4. Privately taught and conscript students are examined, during the first twenty days of June, orally and in writing in all the courses of Groups A and B and orally in the courses of Group C, except for the Physical Education course in which students in this category are not assessed. The degree of promotion or dismissal results from the average of all subjects except Physical Education.[…] 6. Individually taught and conscript students are promoted or dismissed in accordance with the provisions of article 12. Those who are not deemed worthy of promotion or dismissal in the June exams are exceptionally referred to the repeat exams in September in the courses in which the annual performance grade is less than ten (10)’.

ASSESSMENT OF WRITTEN ESSAY AND RE-ASSESSMENT OF STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

According to article 9 of the p.d. 126/2016 (Α΄ 211), within two (2) working days from the issuance of the results, the guardians of the students or themselves, if they are adults, can submit an application to the school where they study, with which they request the regrading of a written essay. The application is accompanied by the prescribed fee for each written essay.

Students with disabilities and special educational needs, for whom an oral exam is planned instead of a written one, may, if they wish, request a review of the courses that were examined. The request for reconsideration is submitted by the guardians of the students or by themselves, if they are adults, to the school within two (2) days of the issuance of the results. The application is accompanied by the prescribed fee for each course for which a review is requested.

The written essays of the “privately taught students” and conscripts are graded and regraded in the same way as the essays of the students of the class in which they are being examined.

STUDENTS NOT ATTENDING THE WRITTEN RECAP EXAMS

According to par. 2 of article 10 of the above p.d., as applicable: “[…]a) A student who is excused from a written summative examination due to an illness confirmed in accordance with the provisions laid down or due to another serious obstacle judged by the Teachers’ Association to constitute force majeure, following a request by the guardian or himself, if he is an adult, who is submitted to the Director of the High School, it is examined on another day until June 30th, which is determined by a decision of the Teachers’ Association. The provisions of the previous paragraph are also applied to students who withdraw after the announcement of the examination subjects due to a sudden and obvious illness, which is confirmed in accordance with the provisions provided.
b) Students of term a’ who do not appear for an examination on the day set by decision of the Teachers’ Association, due to serious health problems confirmed in accordance with the prescribed provisions or a serious obstacle judged by the Teachers’ Association to constitute force majeure, have the possibility to attend repeat examinations before the start of the courses in September, in the second examination period, and to be examined in writing in all the subjects of Group A that were not examined. For these students, the Teachers’ Association does not issue a result at the end of June. In this case, the students’ guardians or the students themselves, if they are adults, submit a responsible declaration to the Director of the relevant High School within two (2) days of the results being issued. The responsible statement states that these students will be examined in the September examination period.”

The results of the promotional and baccalaureate exams must have been issued by Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at the latest, with the exception of the results of privately taught, conscripts or students who were excused absent, whose results are issued at the end of their exams.

It should be noted that with regard to the progress checks of the second quarter, they are delivered to the students’ guardians by Wednesday, May 31, 2023.

  • HIGH SCHOOL

The program of the promotional and graduation exams is defined by the Teachers’ Association and is announced to the students at least five (5) days before the end of the classes.

After the end, the following schedule is proposed for the promotion and graduation exams of the students of the General High Schools of the country:

The promotional exams of her students 1st and 2nd class of Day and Evening G.E.L. are conducted by Tuesday 23 May 2023 to Thursday 15 June 2023. THE date of issue of results is defined no later than Thursday, June 22, 2023.

The final exams of her students 3rd class of Day and Evening classes GE.L.are conducted by Tuesday, May 23, 2023 up to Tuesday, May 30, 2023. THE date of issue of results defined by Wednesday, May 31, 2023.

According to article 105 of Law 4610/2019 (A’ 70), as amended by Law 4692/2020 (A’ 111), a special examination period is foreseen during the second fortnight of June, for students who are excused from the examination of a course due to illness or other unimportant reason and for the students of the 3rd grade of the General Lyceum who do not achieve the G.M.O.

THE publication of the resultsafter special exam period in Junewill be done until Tuesday, June 27, 2023.

It is reminded that within two (2) working days from the publication of the results of both examination periods, the students’ guardians or themselves, if they are adults, can submit an application to the school where they study, with which they request the regrading of one or more written essays. It is also provided special examination period at the beginning of September, for them students who are excused from the course exam due to illness or other valid reason, for the students of the 1st and 2nd grades who do not achieve the G.M.O. and for the 3rd grade students who do not pass the G.M.O. during the special examination period in June.
