The diagnostic exams (“Greek PISA”) for 6th grade Primary and 3rd Grade High School students in Modern Greek Language and Mathematics continue for the second year, as announced by the Ministry of Education.

More specifically, on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, diagnostic exams will be held, in which students of the 6th grade from 300 primary schools of the country and of the 3rd high school from 300 high schools of the country will participate.

The results will be anonymous and will not be taken into account by the teachers to evaluate the performance of the students in the specific courses.

The participation of the selected school units is mandatory and, as specified by the Ministry of Education, the schools selected are a representative sample of all schools in the country, by level of education.

The purpose of these examinations is “to draw conclusions regarding the course of implementation of the study programs and the degree of achievement of the expected learning outcomes, with the aim of valid and reliable recording of the knowledge, abilities and skills of the students”.

“Our aim is to draw up an educational policy based on specific, measurable, tangible data, which we collect through this system of periodic recording of educational results, which help us to undertake targeted initiatives for the overall upgrading of education in our country”, noted the minister, Niki Kerameos.

For her part, the Deputy Minister, Zetta Makri, stated that “year after year, the benefits of our educational reforms meet our expectations, they evolve and upgrade the modern Greek school and the educational work, through the dynamic evaluation process that we spread in Greek educational environment”.

As the ministry mentioned, from last year’s pilot application of the Greek PISA, the results were studied and evaluated, and finally conclusions were issued which were taken into account during this year’s planning of the institution.

In relation to last year, changes have been made that initially concern a more rational distribution of questions by level of difficulty in the individual thematic areas, while in addition open-ended questions are introduced, through which the course of reasoning and the possibilities of written expression of the students can be more accurately captured .

Finally, it is recalled that the “Greek PISA” was introduced by Law 4823/2021 for school upgrading and is carried out by the Authority for Quality Assurance in Primary and Secondary Education (ADIPPDE) and the Institute of Educational Policy (IEP).
