“Euthanasia was the only option, as is often the case when an animal is suffering with no hope of improvement.”
“Little Hashiya he left today painlessly”. The Attica Park, with an announcement on its Facebook page, said goodbye to the beautiful white tiger that was abandoned in a garbage bin of the park by an unknown person on February 28.
According to the post, the white tiger was euthanized due to the serious health problems it was facing they didn’t give her much leeway.
As emphasized, there was contact with specialized centers (while sending all the tests) to investigate the possibility of transferring the animal to one of them for further management and treatment. The responses received from these centers ruled out this possibility.
The announcement of the Attica Zoological Park in detail
“Since 28/2 when she was abandoned outside the Attica Zoological Park, by order of the competent authorities, little Xasiya has remained for hospitality and care in our facilities.
From the first moment, the serious problems he was facing were noticed.
Our people, vets and caregivers, were by her side every moment with lots of love.
Looking for any hope of recovery and a quality life, as befits a tiger, he underwent specialized tests. The results of the imaging tests, blood tests as well as the history were immediately sent to the competent authorities and then to specialized centers in Europe, America and Africa (AAP, Born Free, Panthera Africa, The Wildcat Sanctuary, 4Paws). The purpose of the contacts with the aforementioned centers (while sending all the tests) was to investigate the possibility of transferring the animal to one of them for further management and treatment. The responses received from these centers ruled out this possibility.
A 12-member committee of Greek veterinarians was set up by the Ministry of the Environment, which gave its opinion based on the medical data of the young animal.
Unfortunately, his serious incurable and painful genetic problems, incompatible with an elementary quality life and the rules of well-being, led both the Greek veterinarians who were members of the committee, as well as the foreign experts, to unanimously recommend to the competent authorities that euthanasia was the only selection, as often happens in cases where an animal is suffering without hope of improvement.
Following the final order of the authorities, in the presence of veterinarians from the Eastern Attica Region, little Hasiya left today painlessly, in the place where she lived all this time and among the people who cared for her, loved her and became very attached to her during these 6 weeks. The animal was then transferred to the pathological anatomy laboratory of the Veterinary School of the University of Thessaly.
Everyone’s wish on the occasion of the sad story is that everyone will be more aware of the need to fight the smuggling of wild animals in our country and that there will be a greater intensification of the efforts of the competent authorities in this direction”.
