In 2022, the police managed to prevent 270,000 illegal immigrants from entering Evros, the Minister of Citizen Protection told SKAI 100.3 Takis Theodorikakosnoting that this is the most critical project of EL.AS.

The minister acknowledged that in Attica the police do not have the potential they would normally need.
He explained that in Attica there is 75% of the police work, but only 30% of the police force, and as he pointed out this is due to a law of the 80s that does not allow the movement of police officers from other regions of Greece to Attica.
As the minister explained, for this reason it was decided in the last 2 years, that all the police officers who finish the schools should be placed in Attica.
Mr. Theodorikakos noted that as soon as the judicial police is put into operation, 1,500 police officers will be released, who at the moment are effectively the postmen of justice, carrying documents.
He added that when these people return to the police, we will have more power to turn to the traffic police as well.
However, he noted that on a weekly basis, 100,000 traffic checks are carried out and 23,000 summonses are issued.
Regarding the ASOEE incident, he explained that the only reason the police officers were checked was because they were ordered not to approach, as there was going to be an intervention by the MAT – and they disobeyed the order.
He noted that their movement had a negative development because they were trapped and one of them used his service weapon. He clarified that no order was given to arrest the policeman, the law was implemented.
