Giant NATO exercise with 26,000 soldiers from 26 European countries
April 22 marks the start of one of the largest US military exercises in Europe, “Defender 23”, led by the US military and planned since 2021.
The exercise is expected to last two months and is “designed to demonstrate the US military’s ability to rapidly deploy reliable troops and equipment to secure allies, deter those who would threaten the peace of Europe and defend the continent from aggression.” ».
It focuses on “the strategic deployment of US-based forces, the use of predetermined military reserves, and interoperability with European allies and partners.”
Nearly 9,000 American soldiers and approximately 17,000 soldiers from 26 European nations will take part in the high schools, which will span 10 different European countries.
About 7,000 pieces of equipment were sent last week to Spain from the US, while 13,000 pieces of equipment, taken from a pre-positioned stockpile, will be used in the exercises.
In this context, according to information, in the middle of next May, approximately 100 US marines will attempt to “occupy” the airfield of the 110th Fighter Wing, in Larissa, while a sufficient number of Greek marines who will camp earlier in Larissa will attempt to prevent the occupation of the airport.
The inclusion of the 110 AM air base in the scenario of the exercise confirms that Larissa has been “established” on the map of US operations.
It should be noted that from June 12 – 23, the largest multinational air exercise in the history of NATO, called “Air Defender 23”, will take place in Europe. Up to 10,000 soldiers from 24 countries with 220 aircraft will be trained in air operations in European airspace under the command of the German Air Force.
