The threatening messages against the rector of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) Nikos Papaioannou are condemned, in a statement, by the mayor of Thessaloniki Konstantinos Zervas.
“The condemnation of the threatening messages to the person of the Rector of AUTh. Nikos Papaioannou is self-evident and universal. “These messages and the material that is circulated are completely unacceptable and do not fit in a democratic state, especially when they conceal blackmail and a direct threat to life,” said the mayor of Thessaloniki.
“The Rector of AUTh”, he emphasizes, “symbolizes an institution for the city of Thessaloniki, symbolizes the University itself and therefore our support is absolute and non-negotiable.”
Mr. Zervas also emphasizes that “it is our duty to preserve the prestige of the Higher University Institutions, professors and students as well as the person of the Rector of AUTh.” He adds that “the university community itself must isolate and eliminate the instigators of these actions and the authorities must identify them so that they can be held accountable.”
