An incredible theft took place in Rhodes, specifically in a sculptor’s warehouse, from which unknown perpetrators lifted 15 copper works of art, weighing from 200 to 1,500 kg each.

The theft was done by facilities where the works of art were kept and which the artist was going to donate to Rhodes, through a museum of bronze works that he would prepare as was his dream for many years.

It is about the Rhodian sculptor, who has given works of art that adorn the island of Rhodes, such as the huge bronze dolphins that are located in the port of the city and many others.

The fact has already been reported to the island’s security authorities and investigations to identify and arrest the perpetrators are ongoing.

What worries the owner of the works, however, is to identify the perpetrators, before they manage to cut, shred or melt them in order to sell them as metal. Because for them to be sold as works of art is considered almost impossible, since in such a case they would be found and arrested.

How the burglary happened and how the perpetrators managed to lift the works

From the first evidence gathered by the competent authorities, the mammoth burglary appears to have been done in a completely organized manner. Initially, the perpetrators had watched the area and knew very well how they should move.

They had calculated their times perfectly, but most of all the tools they needed to quickly load and destroy these bronze works of art.

It is estimated that in this theft, more than 10 people took partas enormous muscle power was required to move and load the works.

No copper shavings were found at the site, which would indicate cutting of the works of art. Consequently, it is estimated that the works were loaded onto large cars with a portable crane operated either electrically or manually. The theft of all the works took place in one night, since the previous day the site had been inspected by the owner and everything was in place.
