Celentis for 5.3 Richter in Florina: We believe it was the main earthquake – The fault is unknown

by

The intense aftershock activity that exists after the 5.3 Richter in Florina shows that the seismic sequence is going smoothly “and this makes us more and more believe that this was the main earthquake”, stressed the director of the Geodynamic Institute, Professor Akis Tselentis in SKAI TV and the show “Today”.

He warned that because the focal depth of the earthquake was small, the sequence would continue for a long time “even for days, possibly weeks”.

He added that the possibility of a bigger earthquake is very small and that the reason why the vibration became so felt is because it happened very close to the city of Florina.

“It is a fault west of Florina which was not known, it was a branch of the fault that is known. But what worries me is that I do not want to risk it, we have had a heavy history in the area several years ago. That is, in 1994 we had 5.9 near 6 Richter 40 km from Florina from another fault “, the professor stressed.

He added that the wider area apparently gives strong earthquakes, stating that in November 1967 there was a 6.6 magnitude earthquake but at 100 km.
