Tomorrow, Tuesday, the plea of the 12 defendants for the murder of Alkis Kampanos and the wounding of his two friends, in the early hours of February 1, 2022, in the area of Harilaou, will finally begin.

The initial estimate was that the apologies would begin today, however the bench decided they would begin tomorrow and today the examination of a technician took place, which “closes” the list of defense witnesses. This is a witness testifying on behalf of the last defendant.

So tomorrow, the “baton” will be taken by the accused themselves (aged 21 to 26) and already temporarily detained, who will be called one by one to apologize. The process of apologies is expected to continue in the following sessions of the court, during the week.

So far, none of the 12 defendants has admitted to hitting Alki, although they all admitted (in their opening statements at the start of the trial, three months ago) that they were present at the bloody episode.

Before the Easter break, three medical examiners (K. Apostolidou, Gr. Leon and Dim. Galenderis) had been examined as defense witnesses, who, referring to their conclusions from the expertise they conducted, studying the forensic report and photographs of the case file, argued that the 19-year-old’s death resulted from a blow to the femoral artery.

Through their own conclusions, they attempted on behalf of their principals to refute the findings of their colleague Leda Kovatsis, who signed the forensic report, speaking of death resulting from the confluence of injuries to the lower limbs and the head.

Reacting to the content of the statements of the three medical examiners – technical consultants, Alki’s parents filed, through their lawyer, a lawsuit against them for false testimony and fraud before the court.
