Shortly before midnight on Saturday, the transfer of the 46-year-old crane operator, who is in a serious condition after an electric shock, was finally carried out from the University Hospital of Alexandroupolis to the Burns Intensive Care Unit of the Papanikolaou Hospital.

Initially and immediately after his admission to the intensive care unit, when he was transported by EKAB ambulance from the area of Apalos, where the crane that was being operated to unload natural gas pipes came into contact with PPC power cables and burst into flames, while the unfortunate operator suffered an electric shock , the doctors were wary of transferring him to Thessaloniki.

Finally shortly before midnight and after a special ambulance arrived in Alexandroupolis for transporting similar incidents, the 46-year-old was transferred to the Papanikolaou Hospital.

His health condition remains very serious, the burns on his face are very severe and therefore it was deemed appropriate to treat them in a special Burns Unit.

It remains unknown under what conditions the crane came into contact with the PPC high-voltage power cables that pass through the area, there was an electric shock and at the same time the crane burst into flames.

In addition to the 4 vehicles of the Alexandroupolis Fire Department with the 1st Firefighters, who used special foam to put out the fire, DEDDIE crews arrived in the area because the accident caused a power outage in a very large part of Alexandroupoli, as well as the Police, in order to examine the conditions of the accident.

The company removed the burnt crane from the PPC cables and then the power supply was restored by DEDDIE crews, although the power outage for some time resulted in several parallel incidents with elevator entrapments.
