“We are living by a miracle” – said Alexandra Kalimeri – “I felt that I was breathing again when we arrived in Greece”, said Katerina Kalimeri
The tragic moments they experienced in Khartoum until they managed to come to Greece were described by the sisters Alexandra and Katerina Kalimeri in the show “Dekatians” with Yiannis Pittaras and Giorgos Grigoriadis.
The two sisters spoke of the days they remained trapped in the orthodox church of Khartoum and of the desperate efforts they made with the help of the Sudanese to find an escape route.
“That day we had gone out in the morning, we had gone to the church and we got trapped there. We live by a miracle, we can’t believe it. God has given us new life. Our parents are satisfied that we came to Greece and are safe. Soldiers would stop us on our way and with guns to our heads, they would ask us where we were going. We prayed the whole time until we reached the house of the person who helped us,” said Alexandra Kalimeri.
“I wish our parents would come to Greece too, it’s very dangerous there. When we arrived in Greece, I felt that I was breathing again”, emphasized Katerina Kalimeri for her part.
Alexandra and Katerina Kalimeri arrived in Greece early on Saturday, while their parents remain stranded in Sudan.
