The definition of the more specific terms and conditions for the organization and operation of the internal student mobility program between the first cycle study programs of the Higher Education Institutions, the process of submitting and evaluating the applications of the interested parties, the conditions for participation in the program, the process of recognizing the credit units of the mobile students , as well as every other necessary detail for the implementation of the internal mobility program were determined by a decision signed by the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs Niki Kerameos and the Deputy Minister of Education and Religious Affairs Angel Syrigos.

With the decision another provision of Law 4957/2022 is being implemented to grant, for the first time, the possibility for undergraduate students to learn about other subjects, broadening their academic horizons. The purpose of the internal student mobility program, which is put into operation from the spring semester of the academic year 2023-2024, is to provide the possibility of attending educational activities, which are part of the first-cycle study program of a Department/Unidividual School of another HEI than the one the student is enrolled, providing more scientific and academic perspectives for students, cultivating additional knowledge and skills and promoting the interdisciplinarity of studies.

In particular, fields reflected in the Ministerial Decision concern issues such as:

• Maximum number of commuters per first cycle study program
• Categorization of first-cycle study programs for the needs of the internal mobility program
• Beneficiaries and participation conditions
• Application submission and evaluation process
• Application evaluation process
• Travel duration – Rights of mobile students
• Recognition of educational activities.

The Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, Niki Kerameosstated: “For the first time, we provide our students with the opportunity to attend courses from other schools in the same or different scientific field, exploring new subjects, expanding their knowledge and recruiting. We continue the implementation of the “New Horizons” framework law for HEIs, give new possibilities and perspectives to our students, enrich our academic community, strengthen our higher education institutions as drivers of social mobility and catalysts of the country’s development trajectory.»

15 Questions & Answers for the Internal Student Mobility Program (Internal ERASMUS)

1. What is the Internal Mobility Program?

It is a program that provides the possibility to students who are enrolled in the first cycle study programs of a Department/Mono-Departmental School A.E.I. of Greek Universities and have not exceeded the minimum study time of the study program to move to a similar or non-similar first cycle study program of a Department/Unitary School of another A.E.I. of the country for an academic semester, to attend his educational activities and be evaluated on them. E.g. an Architecture student will be able to attend a semester in a Philosophy department or a Law student in an Economics department of another HEI.

2. Why is it innovative?

The program is an innovation, as for the first time undergraduate students are given the opportunity to attend for an academic semester courses from other schools in the same or a different scientific field of study than the one the student has chosen and entered.

3. How will students benefit?

The program enables them to explore new cognitive areas, gain interdisciplinary understanding, expand their knowledge and skills, and develop new experiences in a diverse academic environment.

4. When will its implementation begin?

The program will be operational for the first time in the winter semester of the academic year 2023-2024 for applications, and for transfers from the spring semester of the academic year 2023-2024.

5. Who can participate?

Any undergraduate student who:
a) Has completed the first academic semester of the first year according to the study program he/she is enrolled in,
b) he/she has a minimum of thirty (30) credits to obtain the degree,
c) has not exceeded the minimum duration of studying the study program,
d) has not moved another time within the framework of the internal mobility program during his/her studies in the specific first-cycle study program.
e) has not joined a part-time study regime during the semester for which he is applying to participate in the internal mobility program

6. Is previous participation in student mobility or student exchange programs within the framework of European programs or the initiative of European universities or bilateral agreements between national universities and foreign universities a reason for exclusion?

No.

7. How many times can they participate?

Once until the completion of the first cycle study program and the awarding of the degree.

8. How many can participate per Department?

The maximum number of students who can move per academic semester to each first-cycle study program is equal to ten percent (10%) of the total number of admissions of the host Department/Uni-departmental School.

9. How and when are applications made?

The submission of applications is carried out exclusively online through a special digital platform of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs:
a) In May of each year for the movement of students that takes place during the winter semester of the following academic year and
b) in November of each year for the movement of students that takes place during the spring semester of the same academic year.

10. By what criteria are applications evaluated?

Candidates are evaluated based on the following criteria:
a) the year of study in which the candidate is,
b) the formal and substantive qualifications possessed by the candidate,
c) the reasons given by the candidate for the acceptance of his/her application.

11. Until when are applications evaluated by the Assembly of the Department/Unitary School?

a) Until July 31 of each year for the movement of students that takes place during the winter semester of the following academic year and
b) by December 15 of each year for the movement of students that takes place during the spring semester of the same academic year.

12. Where do mobile students fit into the study program of the host Department/Uniform School during their mobility – study?

Commuting students are included:
a) in the corresponding semester (winter or spring) of the study program in which each commuting student is, as long as he/she comes from a similar study program,
b) in the corresponding semester (winter or spring) of the first year of the study program, if it comes from a different study program.

13. What rights and obligations do mobile students have during the period of their study in the study program of the host Department/Uniform School?

They have all the rights and obligations of AEI students. reception according to the Internal Regulation of Operation of A.E.I. and the regulation of undergraduate studies.

14. Are academic activities recognized?

Of course.
a) If the curriculum of the Department of A.E.I. host has been characterized as similar to the study program of the Department of origin, the set of educational activities successfully evaluated by the student is recognized and the set of credits (ECTS) that correspond to them are counted for the award of the degree.
b) If the study program of the receiving Department has been characterized as not similar to the study program of the Department of origin, the educational activities in which the student was successfully evaluated may be recognized and the credit units may be counted towards the awarding of the degree corresponding to them as electives, up to a maximum of ten percent (10%) of the total number of credits (ECTS) required for successful completion of the program of study.

15. Can educational activities be recognized after qualifying exams?

Yes, they can be exempted from the obligation to attend and be assessed in courses or educational activities of the curriculum if they have been successfully assessed under the internal mobility programme.
He needs:
• To request their recognition and the counting of the corresponding credit units, regardless of whether the courses and educational activities were counted towards obtaining a degree,
• The content of the courses/educational activities coincides with the content of the first cycle study program of the Department/Unitary School.
• To take a decision of the Assembly of the Department/Unitary School that is in charge of organizing the program.
