The World Wish Day was celebrated throughout Greece with blue illuminations in more than 70 municipalities and with the families of the “wish children” becoming a fist
With the participation of more than 700 people and under the auspices of the Municipality of Athens, Make-A-Wish (Make-A-Wish Greece) celebrated World Wish Day on Saturday, April 29, with a “Cretan” walk in the center of Athens with focus on the journey of Despina’s wish!
Despina, a wish child with mobility limitations, is 8 years old and her wish is to travel to Rethymnon.
It’s not the holidays that he wants most, though, and he proved that to us on Saturday during the organization’s annual walk. Despina loves the people, the music, the rhythm and the dance of the Cretan Windbreaker Club and spending time with its members was her deepest desire! The loud exclamation, when she saw them from afar waiting for her, her intensity to get up from her cart and stand proudly to dance, proved to us her dream, but also her infinite strength!
The annual walk started from D. Areopagitou, with our beloved Ambassador, Fai Skordas, being with us as always.
Having among the participants many well-wishers with their families and the Drumsticks orchestra of the students of the Primary School of Athens College, at the junction of Piraeus and Ermou streets, the Vrakophoros welcomed Despina en masse with mandinades specially written for her to the sounds of the lyre and the lute . Their energy captivated the audience and everyone moved together excitedly for the final destination, the Technopolis of the Municipality of Athens. In the brightly lit blue forecourt, the Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, and the President of Technopolis, Konstantinos Dedes, welcomed the walk.
The party lasted until late, with Crete having its fair share and the Vrakoforos Club providing a unique spectacle, while Despoina remained upright and in rhythm throughout the evening.
The contribution of the Cretan orchestra with P. Saridakis on the lyre, H. Vergakis on the lute, D. Kavarinos on the guitar and A. Kyriakakis on the bass was valuable. Afterwards, Vassilis Koumendakos took over the decks, and the children surrounded him with love and their wonderful dancing!
The World Wish Day was celebrated all over Greece, with blue illuminations in more than 70 municipalities and with the families of wish children across the cities making a fist for the sake of the celebration. Social media was flooded with “blue” photos and smiles, while the municipalities that participated proved to be valuable allies for the organization’s vision to reach all the children who are entitled to the fulfillment of their wish!
