They were detected in the afternoon hours today (3-5-2023) by police officers of the Didymoteicho Border Guard Department of the Orestiada Police Directorate, with the assistance of EMAK and the presence of Frontex officials, -39- illegal immigrantswho were on an island in the river bed Evrosnear the Parevrian area of ​​Pythia Didymoteichos.

These are 13 men, 11 women and 15 minors, for the identification of whom a relevant information was previously provided by M.K.O. regarding the location where they were.

From the subsequent investigations, the validity of the information was confirmed and coordinated actions were immediately carried out to rescue them, while a team of the Hellenic Red Cross and an ambulance of the EKAB were present at the scene in order to provide help in case of need.

As it was established, the migrants had been pushed into Greek territory by a trafficker, who transported them from the opposite bank in a plastic boat and abandoned them on the island.

The clothing, feeding and first aid needs of the rescued, who are in good health, were immediately covered by the Greek Authorities, while they will be transferred to the PROKEKA Orestiada for further procedures in accordance with current legislation.
