The exact circumstances that prompted the estranged parent to attack the cleaner are not clear
The beating of a cleaner at EPAL El. Venizelou by the parents of a student, reports the Chania Labor Center in a statement.
According to the information, the incident happened at the end of last week, when parents went to the school to complain about their child’s low score. The discussion, as ERT points out, developed into an intense argument in the school’s vestibule, in the presence of students, and ended in an assault and molestation of a cleaner who was present at the time.
The exact circumstances that prompted the estranged parent to attack the cleaner are not clear.
However, in its announcement, the Labor Center points out that “Such incidents of violence should under no circumstances occur in schools, especially when they concern educational staff and especially support staff such as the cleaning colleague who works for a daily wage, with a fixed-term contract and for only 9 months and in fact in front of other students”.
It is underlined in the announcement “the need to wake up society and the state, in order to have a strong bulwark against incidents of violence in schools all over the world, such as the recent one in Serbia, with dead students”.
And the announcement concludes: “We call on all the agencies involved and the government to take appropriate measures such as the recruitment of permanent scientific staff (social workers and psychologists) and support staff, which will prevent the occurrence of similar behaviors in the future. We owe it to our children. We owe it to the future of our country.”
