Discharge expected to get today from the Karamandaneio hospital of Patrasthe 5-year-old who was injured on Saturday afternoon, while playing with other children in the playground of Ancient Olympia.

The little girl stayed in the hospital for purely preventive reasons, while she was also examined by neurosurgeons of the University Hospital. He has an injury to his face, which was caused when he tripped and fell on a small wall on the perimeter of the playground with an iron protruding from it.

As stated by the administrator of the Karamandan hospital, Ms. Aspasia Rigopoulou, the 5-year-old will go within the day discharge to return to her home. The case has reopened the debate about the safety of public spaces and especially those in which there are children. The playground where the accident happened has been sealed off.

The mayor of Ancient Olympia George Georgiopoulos emphasized that the playground where the accident occurred will be closed as a precaution, in order to carry out the necessary checks, adding that all necessary measures will be taken.

However, information indicates that the girl’s parents are expected to take action in a complaint against the Municipality of Ancient Olympia.

“The child’s parents, with whom we have contacted many times, told us that he is being hospitalized as a precaution. Fortunately, it didn’t seem to be anything serious. But, for precautionary reasons, because it was a blow to the head, he has to stay inside the hospital. The incident happened outside the limits of the playground, at least the one that has the rubber mats that would protect the child. It was done right on the border, because the playground is placed in the courtyard of the old school of Ancient Olympia and occupies a part of it. At the boundary he fell onto a carpet that jutted out and landed on a concrete edge of the yard. We decided to close the playground and check other such possibilities that can cause accidents. We should take all the necessary measures,” said Mr. Georgiopoulos.
