This is an innovative – for Greek standards – program, which was already implemented in advanced European countries and, at the same time, very difficult to implement.
From today, May 10, 2023, until June 11, 2023 at 23:59, people with disabilities from all over the Territory who want to obtain a Personal Assistant will be able to submit their application digitally at https://prosopikosvoithos .gov.gr.
Those interested in working as Personal Assistants to people with disabilities, with guaranteed pay and insurance, can also apply.
As the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs states in its announcement, disabled people, after checking their application, are assessed at their residence by a special interdisciplinary committee, made up of a social worker, an occupational therapist or a physiotherapist and a psychologist, in order to determine the individualized needs of each one, and then they will receive the committee’s decision, awarding them up to 1,663 euros per month, to use for personal assistance.
Through the Personal Assistant registry, they will be able to choose one or more Personal Assistants according to their needs and preferences.
Accordingly, all those interested in working as Personal Assistants, regardless of specialty, can submit their application digitally at the same email address https://prosopikosvoithos.gov.gr.
After checking their application, they participate in special training provided free of charge by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, in order to join the register of Personal Assistants and be selected by disabled beneficiaries.
The first phase of the pilot program is already piloting in the Region of Attica and its islands and will cover 1,000 people. The second phase will cover an additional 1,000 beneficiaries from the rest of the Regions.
Also, additional positions will be created from the unspent amounts, which are addressed to all applicants from all over the country.
It is a pilot program, with the aim of integrating the disabled into social and economic life, which is being implemented with funding from the Recovery and Resilience Fund until 2025 and will subsequently be funded through NSRF.
Those interested can find information and instructions at https://prosopikosvoithos.gov.gr. Also, they can address their questions by phone either to the number 1555, (toll-free, by selecting 3-OPEKA and then 8) or to the number 210-7000240, (toll-free, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the evening, weekdays).
The Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Domna Michailidou, said: “The Personal Assistant is the means that ensures the independent living of the disabled person, based on his needs, wishes and choices.
At the same time, it contributes to the release of the family environment from the support of this person, as well as to the prevention and prevention of institutionalization.
This is an innovative – for Greek standards – program, which was already implemented in advanced European countries and, at the same time, very difficult to implement.
We are really proud, because we managed to implement a decades-old need of our fellow citizens with disabilities, and in fact throughout Greece.
For four years now, with actions and not words, we have been strengthening the independent living of our fellow citizens with disabilities, helping them to integrate into society and the labor market.
For four years now, we have been creating the conditions for an inclusive society, without discrimination and exclusion. A society that accommodates all of us.
We have accomplished a lot. We still have a lot to do. We continue. Strong together.”
