1821: The victory of the revolutionary forces in Valtetsi paves the way for the occupation of Tripolitsa, the military and political center of the Peloponnese (chiefs: Theodoros Kolokotronis, Kyriakoulis Mavromichalis, Ilias Mavromichalis, Ioannis Mavromichalis, Dimitris Plaputas, etc.).

1890: Nikola Tesla patents the electric generator.

1909: The start of the 1st Tour of Italy, which will later develop into one of the biggest events in professional cycling, is given.

1912: Lieutenant Dimitrios Kaberos makes the first military flight with a “Farman” type plane.

1917: The Miracle of Fatima. The Virgin appears to three shepherds in this village in Portugal. Since then, the area has been one of the main places of worship of the Catholic Church and thousands of believers from all over the world flock to the feast of the Virgin Mary every year.

1950: Italy’s Giuseppe Farina in an Alfa Romeo 158 wins the first race of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone for the inaugural Formula 1 championship, with an average speed of 146.38 km/h.

1939: Harvey Keitel, American actor. He starred, among others, in the film by Theodoros Angelopoulos “The View of Odysseus”.

Deaths

1982: Despina Achladioti, went down in history as the Lady of Rho, as for 40 years she raised the blue and white on the unspoiled islet of Rho, where she had settled with her husband since 1924. (Born 1890)

1988: Chet Baker, American jazz trumpeter. (Born 23/12/1929)

2013: Niki Triantafyllidis, Greek actress. (Born 1942)
