The defendants were brought to the investigative office in the morning to answer to the charges of premeditated homicide and abduction with complicity against the 26-year-old student, which were brought against them in the context of the new investigation launched into the hard crime after the conviction in the second degree of main defendants.

The apologies were preceded by the rejection by the competent Council of the objections of the defendants for invalidity of the procedure.

According to information, the defendants denied before the investigator any involvement in the case of the student, whose body has not been found to date.

The ongoing judicial investigation concerns persons who appear to have been involved in the case of the 26-year-old and was initiated by order of the Joint Court of Appeal. It mainly concerns nine persons, including the family of the person considered to be the mastermind of the criminal plan, who has been sentenced to life imprisonment and additional multi-year imprisonment in the first and second degree. The appellate court ordered, in particular, to investigate the role of the mastermind’s two sons, his wife, who has been convicted in the first degree of complicity in attempted extortion and kidnapping and is now also accused of complicity in murder, of four other persons who are alleged to have been involved in the crime as well as the two defendants who were arrested a few days ago and today apologized.

In the following days, the two sons of the convicted mastermind of the case will appear before the investigator to answer. These are two police officers, one active and one retired, who are charged with the same charges as those for which the 53-year-old and the 54-year-old were brought to the investigative office today.

Marios Papageorgiou disappeared on August 9, 2012, when he had left in his car from Diakofto Achaia, where he was on vacation with his mother, to Aigio. The next day his mother received a phone call from strangers asking for a ransom of 620 thousand euros for the release of her son. The lifer, a family friend at the time, had convinced the woman not to notify the authorities, assuming that he would take the necessary actions to find the 26-year-old, gaining time to eliminate the traces of the student and to cover the action of the team under the orders involved in the case
