We traveled all the way to Austria to meet and drive the new Porsche Cayenne. It is a renewal of the existing generation, however it was upgraded in places and “loaded” with new technologies, more flattering aesthetic interventions and an additional… boost to the mechanical sets.

The Cayenne has earned 30% of Porsche’s sales and has always been the brand’s much-loved luxury and sporty SUV. It is not afraid to get dirty on off-road routes, while it satisfies the most demanding in their daily commute, who are looking for comfort and safety.

The first image

We landed at Salzburg airport, where the renewed Porsche Cayennes were waiting for us, with the first choice to drive the most high-tech version, the e-Hybrid.

Aesthetically, the new Porsche Cayenne stands out in the new bumpers, lighting bodies and more “inflated” fenders. But let’s stick to the front lights, which are offered as standard with Matrix LED technology, while HD Matrix LEDs are optional.

In the first run we had in our hands a 3-liter V6 engine under the hood, which with the cooperation of an electric motor, the combined performance reaches 470 hp and 650 Nm of torque.

The impressive thing about this version is that there is a possibility to charge an integrated 25.9 kWh battery, allowing the luxury SUV to travel up to 90 kilometers purely electrically. This price is factory, but it is not far from the reality, as the trip computer announced 82 more kilometers when we received it charged.

Testing the drivers, the Cayenne e-Hybrid additionally has the option of Hybrid and E-Power. In the first case, the car uses the battery load in combination with the thermal engine, in order to balance between performance and low consumption. Of course, the E-Power option zeroes out fuel consumption and the Porsche Cayenne drives quietly and purely electrically. Quietness becomes a thing of the past when the driver selects either the sport or sport plus program. The car gives a recital of pleasant bass melody, mainly thanks to the exhaust system. We didn’t get to see the 0-100km/h process in action, we’re content with the factory quote of 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 254km/h.

Inside, Porsche redesigned the cockpit with a big addition, that of the 3rd screen in front of the passenger. Therefore, after the fully digital 12.6-inch instrument panel and the 12.3-inch touchscreen on the center console, only the front passenger sees another 10.9-inch one on the car’s dashboard. However, we emphasized the word “only” since the driver does not have the possibility to see the passenger’s screen from his seat, so that his attention is not distracted from the road.

In terms of materials and fitment quality, Porsche has upgraded the cabin across the board, and the sense of luxury and excellent soundproofing is both remarkable and seminal.

The rest of the route consisted of off-road driving. With the off-road option, the Cayenne automatically made the corresponding adjustments to engine performance and four-wheel drive, while at the same time Porsche Active Suspension Management raised the body to protect itself. Even though our test car rode on 22-inch wheels (20- and 21-inch are available), the new Cayenne stayed “screwed” to the muddy terrain, offering enormous safety initially to the driver and other passengers. This is also due to the braking system with Porsche also having the option of ceramic brakes.

The basic and powerful Cayenne

The basic version of the new Porsche Cayenne is equipped with the 3-liter V6 engine producing 353 hp and 500 Nm of torque, i.e. 13 hp and 50 Nm of torque respectively more than the outgoing model. At the top, however, we find the Cayenne S version, which left aside the V6 engine for the eyes of a V8 bi-turbo engine with 474 hp and 600 Nm of torque (34 hp and 50 Nm respectively more than its predecessor).

The Porsche Cayenne S accelerates and reaches the first 100 km/h from a standstill in just 4.7 seconds (with Launch Control which is standard on the coupe version and optional on the SUV) and the maximum speed is 273 km/h. The linearity of the engine makes a big impression with every depression of the right pedal, which differentiates its driving behavior compared to the e-Hybrid version. In the latter, we have a more immediate response when starting, due to the electric motor.

In Greece, the new Porsche Cayenne starts at 115,700 euros for the E-Hybrid version. Regarding the Cayenne and Cayenne S versions, they start at 131,950 euros and 158,570 euros respectively.
