Intervention in universities for cases of lawlessness – Theodorikakos: The shacks of violence are over

by

Immediate intervention in universities to deal with successive cases of lawlessness is the goal of the Ministry of Citizen Protection. “The shacks of violence have come to an end,” said Civil Protection Minister Takis Theodorikakos.

“We have a plan, we are implementing it with determination,” the minister told the Open.

Speaking on Wednesday at SKAI 100.3 the Minister of Civil Protection stressed that “the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Greek Police in cooperation with the rector of the Aristotle University, vacated the area of the Department of Chemistry that had been occupied by people from the margins. It is a positive example. Wherever and whenever this cooperation exists, there is security and therefore freedom within the university which is the precondition for its smooth operation.

As far as the incident at the University of Economics is concerned, this is overt violence that is unequivocally condemned by all. The police will do everything they can to find the culprits, so one should go deeper on the occasion of this incident. Each university should have a security plan, which is the responsibility of the rector, there should be controlled entry and cameras and cooperation with the Police when needed “.

ELAS intervened at the Athens University of Economics and Business (formerly ASOEE) and at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki yesterday, Wednesday. In fact, the anti-authoritarians were caught on the spot while they were tearing down a wall with a drill. On Wednesday afternoon, the police released a video from the operation in ASOEE:

At the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the police arrested 15 people from a place they had occupied last Monday.

It is noted that on January 17, the training of the 400 newly hired special guards who will staff the university police begins. Among other things, they will attend criminal procedure courses and do simulation exercises.

SYRIZA: No to university police – entrance cards

Speaking to ACTION 24 about the growing incidents of violence at universities, SYRIZA spokesman Nassos Iliopoulos criticized the government, saying it had not yet provided solutions to the issue. The official opposition disagrees with the permanent presence of the police in the University institutions and proposes that there be an upgraded service that will be accountable to the rector and will alert the police to attacks, in the standards of other European countries.

Mr. Iliopoulos clarified that SYRIZA also disagrees with the entrance cards, because as he observed, the universities must be open to all citizens because lectures are held that should be open to those who wish to participate.
