“In the next few hours, due to the small focal depth, you will understand many aftershocks,” he said
In continuation of the seismic sequence of the last two days, the director of the Geodynamic Institute said in a post on Facebook, Akis Tselentisin the wake of the 5.1 magnitude earthquake that struck Crete earlier.
“In the next few hours, due to the small focal depth, you will understand many aftershocks”, he said characteristically and emphasized that due to the poor structural fabric of the area, caution is required and if the buildings are old, especially the stone ones, citizens should stay away.
His post in detail:
Earthquake Notice 5.1, 7 km NW of Moira Heraklion.
The Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens announces that today, at 21:58 Greek time, its seismological network recorded a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 on the Richter scale.
The epicenter of the tremor is located 7 km NNW of Moira Heraklion.
It is a continuation of the sequence that started two days ago. It is too early to reach a safe conclusion about the evolution of the phenomenon. Because there are cracks in the area that can give slightly larger sizes, I have a reservation.
Due to the poor structural fabric of the area, care is required and if the buildings are old, especially the stone ones, let’s avoid them.
In the next few hours due to the small focal depth you will understand many aftershocks.
YOU MUST APPLY KNOWN EARTHQUAKE PRECAUTIONS ANYWAY.
