A 70-year-old man was sentenced to 6 months in prison, with a 3-year suspension, because he sexually harassed a 19-year-old soldier when he went to vote last Sunday morning, at a polling station in Thessaloniki.

The Autonomous Single-member Misdemeanor Court of Thessaloniki found him guilty of sexual indecency by recognizing the extenuating circumstance of his previous cohabitation.

Testifying in court, the 19-year-old said that the defendant caught him talking while he was looking for his polling station to vote, addressed him with an inappropriate proposal, while touching him on a sensitive part of his body. “I was agitated and called Immediate Action,” the complainant said, among other things.

For his part, the 70-year-old denied the act, characterizing the complaint as untrue. “Absolutely nothing happened. This love behavior is unknown to me. I should have been a monster to do such a thing in front of so many people,” he said in his apology. He allegedly runs the canteen at the school that served as a polling station. After his conviction he appealed and was released.
