Arrests were turned into arrests of the five police officers who are accused of being involved in the trafficking of irregular migrants in Evros.
After an operation by the incorruptible members of ELAS, the five policemen were arrested as suspects for the offenses of bribing an employee, abuse of power, breach of duty and violation of the immigration and social integration code, while the actions of four more foreigners residing outside the Greek territory were also ascertained.
As it emerged from the investigation so far, the police officers at least since October 2022 had connections with circuits operating in a neighboring country while they allegedly committed acts or omissions aimed at facilitating the entry into our country of citizens of third countries.
The arrested facilitated in at least 12 cases the illegal entry into Greek territory of an unknown number of irregular immigrants.
From the investigations carried out, the following were found and seized:
26,550 euros, 59 mobile phones, 12 power banks, 2,120 US dollars, 850 Turkish pounds, 23 British pounds, 77 Romanian Lei, a number of banknotes from Asian countries and a bank card.
The border guards in Evros say they are shocked by this development, while their president Chrysovalantis Gialamas, speaking to he talks about “snakes” which bite and fill their work with poison.
