36 illegal oil storage tanks were detected
“mammoth amount” contraband oil seized by the auditors of the Independent Inland Revenue Authority.
The auditors of AADE, using information, carried out a surprise check on underground facilities under construction, on a plot of land, in the area of Nea Makri Marathon.
On inspection, they were found 36 illegal oil storage tanks, in which 63,900 liters of heating oil and 4,500 liters of diesel were found and confiscated, adulterated with heating oil, according to the analyzes of the Chemical Service, which is not consistent with domestically produced oil.
The quantities of oil were placed on the market as motor oil, without documents, either on its own or mixed with heating oil and solvents.
The total amount of fines for evading duties and taxes and for illegal storage of oil exceeds 200,000 euros.
The owner of the property, who also owned a gas station in the same area, was arrested with the procedure of self-indictment and taken to the Prosecutor. The case is being investigated to identify others involved.
